I have had the privilege of leading and facilitating Resilience workshops with different organizations across the United States. Throughout each workshop, we spend time peeling back the layers that prevent each of us from reaching our fullest potential. From exploring emotions, triggers, negative communication patterns to, most importantly, deeply re-connecting with our innermost values. 

Resilience is often confused as a trait or characteristic that one has or does not have. However, resilience is neither of these things. Resilience is the marriage of behaviors, thoughts, actions, beliefs and attitudes that can be learned, shaped and enhanced in anyone. Harnessing your personal resilience is the key to powerfully moving through stressful scenarios, change, and transition. In doing so, you turn on your inner trailblazer and are able to be a change leader for those around you. 

Jamais  Cascio, author, futurist and one of Foreign Policy Magazine’s top 100 global thinkers says: 

“Resilience is all about being able to overcome the unexpected. Sustainability is about survival. The goal of resilience is to thrive.”

Exploring values is always the most profound exercise and typically inspires the biggest shifts in both mindset and action. Once you know your values– making decisions, creating change, and forging your path, becomes much clearer.

I love seeing participants leave our workshop ignited and ready to take massive action. We have seen an extremely positive transformation within our culture since implementing the Change Resilience path. Our communication has transformed, overall stress responses have shifted, and team members are practicing resilience techniques both inside and outside of the workplace. 

After going through the Change Resilience Path, we see an increase in participants’ daily resilience practices at home, work and with others, evaluated using the following questions throughout the course of the Path. 

  • When things change around me, it can take a long time for me to react to the change. 
  • I regularly observe how I am interacting with those around me. 
  • I am able to monitor my emotions. 
  • Even if I am upset, I can take a step back and deal with the situation at hand. 
  • In general, I am able to have warm relationships with others.
